5 Ways To Fail At Fitness During Summer 6/17/16

1)   Stop going to the gym – What does summer in Bozeman mean to your fitness?  For most people they don’t like staying in the gym since it’s nice outside.  We live in place where we can go hiking, fishing, walking…ect.

That’s understandable, but if you’ve worked hard all winter to be fit, I strongly recommend following a strength maintenance plan to keep your fitness gains from the winter.   This can be easily done with 2 workouts a week for 30 minutes.  Remember – If you don’t use it, you lose it!

2)   More bar-b-q and drinking - Social gatherings certainly increase in the summer, and so does the influence of poor diet foods.  Chips, hot dogs, burgers, and drinks plus much more.  Try this simple remedy.  “If you can’t do it in moderation, don’t do it.”

3)   Traveling kills a balanced diet - This is probably the hardest one for myself.  Who doesn’t like to travel and try different restaurants?  Here are some ideas to help you be successful

a.     Build a plan and stick with it.

b.    Don’t wait till you’re hungry to eat

c.     Drink plenty of water

d.    Have some healthy snacks in the car – jerky, veggies, nuts, cheese, protein bars

4)   Excessive S’mores – Campfires are great on a summer evening, but with S’mores it’s just that much better.  Just ask my wife!  She loves eating S’mores at a campfire.  Like many fun snacks in the summer, it’s hard to eat just one.  Again, moderation is the key word here.

5)   More cardio less strength training – We mentioned a lot of people stop going to the gym in the summer to go outside, but most of these activities are cardio based.  I agree it’s important to use your fitness to experience Bozeman outdoor activities.

But don’t lose your fitness

Keep lifting weights during the summer.  Cardio activities won’t promote lean muscle like weights do.  As I mentioned before you can do a simple maintenance program of 2 workouts a week for 30 minutes.

Enjoy your summer, but don’t ruin fitness gains!
